Indianapolis Colts vs. New York Jets Game Recap

Colts hats & merchandise Coming into the game it looked like an epic match-up on paper. The Colts with their all-world quarterback and his young receivers against the number one ranked defense in the NFL. The Jets with their brash and talkative head coach versus the Colts and their calm and quiet head coach. Of course the talk of the week was the Jets defense that held San Diego’s high powered offense to few points and the talk was they would hold the Colts also. One thing about Rex Ryan, the Jets coach, he truly believed in his team and they bought in, as we all know the key for any head coach of any team in any sport is to have the whole team buy in to what you are selling. For the Jets it worked, they have been underdogs for most of the season, and they were in the playoffs and they had a big task going to Indianapolis to take on the Colts.

The Colts were on a roll coming in to this game, coming off a 20-3 victory against Baltimore the real victory was on the defensive side of the ball. The Indy defense held Ray Rice to only 67 yards on the ground a far cry from Indy defenses’ of the past. This game was looking like more of the same; the Jets have a one, two punch in the name of Thomas Jones and Shonn Greene that Indy would have to keep under wraps. In the beginning of the game, the Colts looked a little shaky, having one first down and then punting the ball, but the Jets came out in rhythm and ready to play. They drove the ball effectively but Jay Feely missed a 44 yard field goal, so the first quarter ended at all zeros. In the second quarter Indianapolis started off kicking a 25-yard field goal, but the Jets struck quickly with a Sanchez to Edwards 80-yard passing touchdown making the score 7-3 Jets. The Jets defense was holding strong, as the Colts drove down the field they held Indy to another field goal making the score 7-6. Next the Jets put together a 7 play 77 yard drive ending in a Sanchez to Keller 9 yard touchdown. The Colts quickly came out and turned the ball over and the Jets struck again with another field goal making the score 17-6, New York Jets. All of the scoring took place in the second quarter and it wasn’t over, the cerebral assassin, Peyton Manning, took over and on a 4 play 80 yard drive he hit Collie in the back of the end zone making the score at half 17-13. The final two quarters of this game really showed the kind of team Indianapolis is, they came out made their adjustments and took over as champions do. The Colts put together two outstanding drives one 57 yards ending with a Manning to Garcon 4 yard touchdown strike and the other an 80 yard drive finishing with a Dallas Clark 15-yard touchdown. Matt Stover tacked on a 21 yard field goal making the final score Indianapolis 30, New York 17.

I have been an Indianapolis fan for a while and I am really impressed with how this young, but experienced team has come together and they know how to win. The Colts offense makes in game adjustments better than any other team in the league, and the defense makes plays every week and they still fly under the radar. Just to let you know how good they are, not only did they hold Ray Rice to 67 yards last week, they held the New York Jets to 86 rushing yards on 29 running plays. Now that is defense, scary thing is they still have a few injuries on the defensive side of the ball, meaning they could be better. The Colts are a championship team and they are showing it and the next destination is Miami where the Super Bowl awaits them. Hat’s off to the Jets they played a great game, but they find themselves where many other teams found themselves scratching their heads asking, “Who was that number 18?” His name is Peyton Manning, his team the Indianapolis Colts, his goal to win the Vince Lombardi trophy, Again.
