Jets Lose Again, What a Shock

THE JETS! That’s all I can say. This team knows how to rip your heart out unlike any other. How on earth did they lose that game on Sunday? They Jets did everything they needed to do to win, except of course worry about stopping Ted Ginn. Ted Ginn ran through the Jets defense easier than a serving of Chicken Vindaloo runs through my body. Special teams is usually an advantage for the NYJ, but not on Sunday. Poor kick coverage lost the game on Sunday and put the Jets in an enormous hole.

The Jets come into their bye week thinking…what the heck happened? Yes, I just said heck.

In their first matchup against Miami, the Jets could not stop the wildcat offense or Chad Henne. On Sunday they shut down both. The Dolphins couldn’t run it at all. Henne only managed a meager 112 yards through the air. The Jets got after the Dolphins all day. The defense beat the Dolphins down worse than Omar Minaya killed the Mets chances at a pennant. Mark Sanchez looked shaky at times, but he managed the game. He spread the ball around and didn’t make mistakes. He even upped his rating from his last start in the cold, from 8.3 to 100.3. Thomas Jones plowed for 100 yards for the third straight week. These are the games you have to win.

The Jets dominated on offense and defense, but three breakdowns lead to their defeat. Ted Ginn embarrassed the Jets special teams unit and took it to the house twice. For the first time in his NFL career Ginn seemed to earn his high draft slot and didn’t have to coast on Brady Quinn being worse than him to justify his selection. Rookie Shonn Greene lost a fumble that Jason Taylor subsequently took to the house to account for yet another non-offensive Dolphin touchdown. The Dolphin defense and special teams accounted for 21 of their 30 points. That is a recipe for disaster and the Jets couldn’t have had a bigger implosion if they were practicing in Shea Stadium when they finally blow up that dump (Note: I am not even sure if that hole still exists, but my fondest memory there was when my friend I missed the first game of a doubleheader because there were no parking spots. Dump supreme).

This week the Jets take a well needed week off. Hopefully Ted Ginn haunts their nightmares like he has been haunting mine, which honestly is a decent break from my “E.T.” nightmares. Let’s be honest. This was a fluke. Ted Ginn? Seriously?

The Jets need to get back to basics. They are a decent team. They’re not really that good. They’re not really that bad. The Jets are kind of like Fergie, they’re all right, but they don’t really get me excited sexually. They’re decent. They’re basically a .500 team and will probably go 8-8.

The good thing about this being the Jets bye week is at least they won’t lose.

Thank god.
