Jets vs. Saints: Offense vs. Defense
This week the Jets head for New Orleans for what undoubtedly will be a clash of the titans. Wait that was last week, literally. Yes, I am ashamed of myself for making a Titans of New York joke. I’m not going to lie, the Jets look great. The have played great and the future seems like it may be great. But… Drew Brees is not Kerry Collins and the Saints are not the Tennessee Titans. Past DUI convictions aside, Brees is throwing flames this year and Collins is throwing ducks. The Jets met the Titans at the worst possible time for Tennessee. The team was reeling, coming off two straight rough losses and came to a tough rainy road environment. The Titans made some mistakes and were careless with the football and the Jets made them pay. That’s what good teams do. If you make a mistake, you will have to pay for it. Let’s face it. The Jets are 3 and 0. Jets fans couldn’t be any happier right now. If someone would have said before the season the Jets would start 3-0 against that schedule they have played the first three weeks I would have been more surprised than my girlfriend was when I agreed to see “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.” The Jets schedule for the first four weeks is brutal. It has been more difficult than the Wonderlic test was for Vince Young, but the Jets so far have made it through unscathed, even though I may have had a mild stroke when Mark Sanchez lunged for the end zone last week with HIS HELMET.
The Jets must keep doing what they’re doing to come away from New Orleans with a victory. Simply, get after the quarterback. The Jets surely blitz the quarterback a lot, but have yet to come away with many sacks. This has to have Rex Ryan more concerned than his cholesterol count. (Just kidding, he should be more concerned with the cholesterol).
Things are good in Jets Nation. So far Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez have far exceeded expectations. If you are a Jets fan and don’t have a man crush on both of these guys I feel sorry for you, unless you’re a woman. That being said, the result from this week will speak volumes of where the Jets are headed. A win this week solidifies the Jets as one of the powers in the AFC and a force to be reckoned with.
However, that doesn’t mean I’m going to pick them.
The pick
Let’s pray that I’m wrong.
VIVA SANCHEZ
