The Baltimore Ravens are not going to go down without punching you in the mouth. And they have a punchers chance to get to the Super Bowl. They beat the Patriots 33 to 14 in Gillette stadium to advance into Round 2.

Here is the story:

  • Ray Rice 22 carries for 159 yards. McGahee 20 carries for 62 yards - Total for Baltimore was 234 rushing yards.

  • Held New England to 196 total yards.

  • Polar opposite approach. Baltimore runs 52 times and throws 10 times compared to New England passing 42 times and running 18 times. Running the ball won on this day.

  • Baltimore had 2 turnovers but caused 4. So a plus 2 in turnovers helps.

  • Ravens were 10 for 16 on 3rd down.

  • Held New England to 3 for 12 on 3rd down.

  • Ravens had 3 sacks and New England had 0.

  • Baltimore came out guns a blazin and put up a 24 to 0 1st quarter lead.

Now before we get too excited here let us remember this was a shaky New England squad. This is not the juggernaut of a few years ago. The defense is very pedestrian. It's hard to say the absenceof Wes Welker hurt since Edelmen had a solid day. Brady had little chance to do anything and the lack of running did not help. Yes you were down 24 points but there were still 3 quarters left. I didn't think you needed to panic.

The best part of this win was the Ravens defense showed up for the party. If we were being honest we had noticed the defense take a couple steps backwards. Still a very good defense but not the bone crushing defense. Sunday in the suburbs Boston the Ravens did crush a few bones.

Heading into next week? The Ravens go to Indy to face the well rested Colts. This is actually a good match up for Baltimore. The Colts are not alwasys in the mood for a physical game. Although the Colts defense has developed some swagger over the last couple years. The offense though can be beaten into submission.

Peyton Manning will not concede defeat though. You will have to beat it out of him.
