Steelers Choke in the End

Steelers hats & merchandise

Hey Mike Tomlin - where was HELL? That was lame and you and your team should be embarrassed.

I know the any given Sunday cliche, but this was bull. Another 4th quarter collapse. You let a team that averages less then 11 points per game score 21 points in one quarter. The 4th QUARTER at that.

Yeah, yeah you didn't exactly roll over as you scored 14 4th quarter points but your Hell defense got torched by one of the worst offenses in the league! The lapses are becoming more regular and the numbers are telling a bad story.

You let a journeyman QB average 8.4 yards per pass and the Raiders averaged 3.9 yards per carry. You allowed 396 total yards and the Raiders ran 10 more plays then you. Raiders ran 65 plays and the Steelers ran a sad 54 plays.

Offensively you were very effecient in yards per play according to the stats.   And you did enough to win. But it was far from unleashing Hell.

  • Ben was 18 for 24 and 278 yards - a very strong 11.58 yards per pass attempt

The big blunder was your Hell defense couldn't get off the field! So your offense was somewhat efficient in yards per play but they didn't have the ball enough or at times KEEP the ball long enough. The Raiders had the ball for a unacceptable 5 minutes and :38 seconds more than the Steelers!

Ben had 2 TD throws but he had an INT also. Which in a game like this you cannot afford a turnover of any kind at any time. And the efficiency per play   is only part of the story   as the Red Zone efficiency was deplorable! The Steelers were 2 for 5 in the Red Zone. The Raiders were 2 for 2.

Now some of the numbers are slightly misleading in this sense. MendenHELL had a 60 yard run that bolstered his numbers per carry. He averaged 2.2 per carry on his other 19 carries. So that was part of the time of possession problem.

This was a devistating loss overall. You had 2 cakewalks with Oakland and the Browns (Thurs) and a chance to solidify the playoff position. Now your looking like your falling from the playoff race.

I don't want to over react but I am not impressed with Tomlin as of late. His team has been regressing and he has not stopped it. He did seem to have had an effect on the secondary but now garbage QB's are having big days on you.

Yes that is Brad Gradkowski. Yes the defense has been injured but look at that name again! And LeBeau does not get a pass either. You have to make adjustments with personnel.

Look if this was the Colts, then you can swallow that,   but this was the Raiders!
