The Michael Vick Question

Philadelphia Eagles hats & merchandise Did anyone think for one millisecond that Michael Vick was not going to return to the NFL? If not this year definitely next year, and anyone who thinks that the NFL or any business is going to turn away a valuable commodity is insane.

I can give you 4.3 reasons why he is coveted. The man is flat out a gifted athlete with blazing speed and elusiveness, end of story. That is what the Philadelphia Eagles care about, that is what any organization cares about at the end of the day. Although if any team would make a moral stand it would be our Steelers.

We should ask ourselves; does anyone think that Michael Vick is the only pro football player or pro athlete guilty of heinous acts? Now I am not saying that the league or pro sports are inundated with depraved people, but there is no question and no doubt that Vick is not alone. Anyone remember Lawrence Phillips? How did this guy get drafted after dragging a woman down steps? Not to mention the dozens that the public is unaware of. This is not a league of boy scouts.

That in no way excuses Vick, but you are dreaming if you think a team or teams would not roll the dice on this kind of talent.

I am also disturbed by the inconsistency of the media and the public. Now look I love dogs, but I am a little more concerned with humans. Frankly I am livid that Dante Stallworth is only going to do a month in jail for killing a human!

Now right off the bat people will say that the accident involving an intoxicated Stallworth was not as malicious and demented. At first glance I might agree. But at the end of the day I don’t see it that way. Why?

I have complete disdain for anyone who gets behind a wheel under the influence. Simply because there is no reason or excuse to do it. It is the height of irresponsibility and arrogance if you are being completely honest. And that is the part of the problem. Many of us disregard the reality of drinking and driving. Many of us are more upset that Michael Vick is playing football than the fact that there are people that are going to risk your life today when you are driving home.

Yes at any given time when you are on the road, there are fools that should not be there with you. Every day, week, month, or year the deaths pile up. Innocent children, women, men, oh and even dogs riding in the car with their innocent family are snuffed out because of this scourge on humanity. And yet we never see the outcry or venom of the level that cruelties to animals receive. I don’t get it.

Next year or the year after when someone signs Stallworth, the complaints will be few and glossed over. To me that is sad.
