As we look back over time the Houston Oilers were an amazing team of the past that transformed into one of the top teams of today as the Tennessee Titans. With amazing players from the past to players like Chris Johnson today, the Titans/Oilers have a rich history and an exciting future. We want to look at the top ten players in Titans/Oilers history:

10. Drew Hill-WR

A 12 th round draft pick in 1979 out of Georgia Tech, Drew Hill was an exciting big play receiver for the Houston Oilers. During his career he was selected to the Pro Bowl twice with 634 receptions, 9,831 yards and 60 touchdowns he was a solid part of that Houston run and shoot offense.

 

9. Keith Bulluck-LB

A defensive leader on the field and the emotional leader in the locker room, Bulluck was a force against any opposing offense. In his career he has totaled over 1,000 tackles, 18.0 sacks, and 19 interceptions and his career is not over. Bulluck was most definitely a fan favorite in Tennessee and will always be loved as a player and a role model.

 

8. Cris Dishman-CB

Dishman a 2 time Pro Bowl selection was a hard hitting cornerback for the Houston Oilers. Over his career he had 43 interceptions and 3 touchdowns. Dishman was an exceptional athlete who loved to play the game.

 

7. Ernest Givens-WR

Givins was a great receiver for the Oilers and is best known for his touchdown celebration dance known as “the electric slide”. In his career he was a 2 time Pro Bowl selection and an All-Pro; over his career he had 571 receptions for 8,215 yards and 49 touchdowns.

 

6. Ray Childress-DL

Childress was a versatile defensive lineman, not only could he rush the passer he was also a great run stopper. He was a 5 time Pro Bowl selection and a 6 time all-pro selection; during his career he tallied 76.5 sacks in 163 games he also shares the NFL record for fumble recoveries in a single game with three.

5. Eddie George-RB

George was a powerful running back that was long and graceful. He was a top running back in college that splashed on the scene with Houston. In his career he was selected to the Pro Bowl 4 times and was an all-pro twice. He won Rookie of the Year in 1996 and helped lead the Titans to the Super Bowl. Over his career he totaled 10,441 yards with 68 rushing touchdowns.

 

4. Bruce Matthews-OL

Matthews was the prototypical offensive lineman, big, tough and down right mean he was who you wanted protecting the quarterback. He was selected to the Pro Bowl an incredible 14 times and was an all-pro 10 times in his career. He was also durable he started 292 games over his stellar NFL career.

 

3. Steve McNair-QB

A big time talent from a small time college, McNair was all that and then some. He was one of the most talented players to ever wear a Houston Oilers uniform he could do it all and he did. He was a 3 time Pro Bowl selection, an NFL MVP, and an all-pro. His stats over his career over 31,000 passing yards with 174 touchdowns, he played for the Oilers/Titans and also the Baltimore Ravens.

 

2. Earl Campbell-RB

Earl Campbell knew how to run the football, a powerful, bruising running back he put his stamp on the NFL. Just a few accomplishments in his career: 5 time Pro Bowl selection, 3 time all-pro, 1978 Offensive Rookie of the Year, 1979 NFL MVP and a 3 time Offensive Player of the Year Campbell was a man among boys on the football field. Career stats: over 9,000 yards rushing and 74 touchdowns.

 

1. Warren Moon-QB

The heart and soul of the Houston Oilers, Warren Moon made the Oilers offense go. During his time in the NFL, Moon was selected to 9 Pro Bowls, 3 all-pro selections, Offensive Player of the Year, Man of the Year and Pro Bowl MVP. He was a fan favorite in Houston where the Run and Shoot offense reigned supreme; in his career he had 49,325 passing yards with an amazing 291 touchdowns.

 

This past year the Titans really struggled to get things going, but with Chris Johnson running the ball and Vince Young at quarterback things are looking up for the Titans. The key will be adding pieces at wide receiver and on defense; that could put the Titans back as a force in the NFL.
