Brad Childress has flown out to Mississippi to discuss the prospect of Brett Favre joining the Minnesota Vikings. A brief meeting was expected upon arrival Wednesday evening, and to precede talks on Thursday. It is expected to get concrete answers by the end of the week into the weekend.

Brace yourself, Viking fans, for a few more days of electric buzz over the initial chance of Brett Favre joining the Viking franchise. Upon a signing with the Vikings, prepare for a exciting, roller coaster of news and coverage in the eyes of the sportsworld. Currently, local Minnesota radio stations and national media are in a frenzy over the future of Brett Favre’s football career and the dynamics of his Green Bay years and a possible defection to the purple. In Minnesota, Viking and Packer fans are calling into radio talkshows, talking in break rooms, and blogging on the internet about this phenomenon. It seems that many are taking a side of love ‘em or hate ‘em.

Analogies: Brett the Boxer, Brett the Wrestler?

Many fans are at odds about Brett Favre leaving the Green Bay Packers legacy for a one year shot with the enemy, the Minnesota Vikings. I have heard many analogies but the best is the comparison to the prize fighter who just can’t leave the ring. Another spin is the pro wrestler who is the hero then turns to the heel and then goes back to hero. If Brett joins the Vikings, I think these roles will be the same for Viking and Packer fans. Personally, I don’t agree with the “diva” label, which has been grossly overused.

Favre Retirements

Background: In 2008, Brett Favre and the Packers had a long, confused disagreement about his retirement and his status with the Packers. It was determined by the Green Bay Packers management that Favre had retired. Later, Brett decided to come back to the team which was received with mixed reviews by the organization. With the emergence of Aaron Rodgers, the Packers felt it was time to move on and numerous events would take place before the 2008 season. The New York Jets traded for Favre and the team did very well until a meltdown at the end of the season. Recently, Favre was given release by the New York Jets and is currently a free agent. The Minnesota Vikings, a team that has been quarterback-impaired for years, is the only team that Favre could be talked into joining.

Darrell Bevell

Darrell Bevell, the current offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, is the key to the Brett Favre signing possibilities. It is common knowledge that Favre has a good, working relationship with him going back to the Packers 2000-2005 season. Bevell and the Vikings were accused of illegal tampering with Favre before the 2008 season. Later, the charges were dropped.
