2009 Review:The Baltimore Ravens as always have a stout defense, with Ray Lewis anchoring the middle and Ed Reed roaming in the secondary the Ravens have always been solid on that side of the ball. When the Ravens drafted Joe Flacco the got themselves a solid starter for years to come the key was to get weapons around him and in the year 2009 it was the beginning of the process. With the emergence of Ray Rice as one of the top backs in the league it gave the Ravens a stable running attack with a back that could not only run the ball but could also catch passes out of the backfield. Derrick Mason and Todd Heap were Flacco’s go to receivers, Mason has been around the league for a while but is still explosive and Heap has been a reliable tight end for the Ravens not only catching the ball but also in blocking schemes. In all honesty the Ravens were disappointed with their 9 win season they expected more, especially with the defense that was in place. Fact is the Ravens defense is not getting any younger and it was evident with the injuries that occurred on the defensive side of the ball and truth be told it may have cost them a win or two. If there was a thing as sweet redemption it was in the wildcard playoff game when the Ravens manhandled the Patriots, it really showed a changing of the guard in the AFC, but will it continue? If the Ravens are to get back to Super Bowl form they must add missing pieces to solidify the offense and they must get younger on the defensive side.
2010 Preview:The key for the Ravens in 2010 is to find more offense and in a huge move they brought over Anquan Boldin putting a big play receiver opposite of Derrick Mason. The future is really looking bright for this Ravens team, with Ray Rice running the ball and catching passes out of the back field and Joe Flacco tossing the ball around the field the Ravens are definite contenders in the AFC. In the draft the Ravens obviously focused on getting the defense younger by drafting Sergio Kindle from Texas and he should improve the speed on the defense. I really believe that the Ravens will be on top of the AFC North this year as they were the ones to make the most of the offseason, it will pay off this season. Is it enough to get them to the top of the AFC, only time will tell but it sure is getting them closer.
2010 Prediction:Baltimore Ravens: 11-5 (1st place in AFC North) playoffs
