2010 NFL Preview > Denver Broncos Preview2010 Denver Broncos Football Preview
Head Coach: Josh McDaniels 2009 Record: 8-8 (2nd place in AFC West) Pro Bowlers: Brandon Marshall (WR), Ryan Clady (OL), Elvis Dumervil (LB), Champ Bailey (CB), Brian Dawkins (SS) AP All-Pros: Ryan Clady (1st team), Elvis Dumervil (1st team), Brian Dawkins (2nd team)
2009 Review:It was a season of new things for the Denver Broncos, with the first year head coach Josh McDaniels and a host of new defensive players the Broncos were looking to make a splash in the AFC West. The Broncos had expectations of improving on their 8-8 record of 2008 but it seemed just like a replay of the previous season as they finished with the same record. The big offseason move was bringing over former Philadelphia Eagles safety Brian Dawkins (a man who’s intensity on the field can only be rivaled by Ray Lewis) to patrol the secondary and it paid dividends. Even though Dawkins is older he still has much football left in him and the Broncos knew he could be an impact player for them. The emergence of Elvis Dumervil was key also as he led the league in sacks, the Broncos defense was a stout bunch but the offense really struggled with off the field issues. Brandon Marshall was disgruntled and very unhappy but it seemed that he pushed those things aside and seemed to play well on certain weeks. The Broncos must make a few key moves in the off season, finding a different home for Marshall is one and getting stability at the quarterback position is another.
2010 Preview:The key issue for the Broncos, and for any team, is to get rid of those who do not want to be a part of the team because if you don’t it could begin to affect the team. So the Broncos shipped off Brandon Marshall to Miami and are ready to take the AFC West division once again. The defense is ready to improve on last year’s performance and defensive end Elvis Dumervil looks to cause opposing offenses all kinds of problems. The Broncos in order to be successful in ’10 they must have solid quarterback play from the starter (who ever it may be) on the roster they have Kyle Orton who started many games for them last season, Brady Quinn who was with Cleveland last season and they drafted Tim Tebow from the University of Florida in the first round (which was a shock to many). Can the Broncos win now that is the question everyone is asking as for me I think they can, not because of the offense (don’t get me wrong Knowshon Moreno is a very good back put the passing attack must get better) but because of the talent and experience they have on defense.
2010 Prediction:Denver Broncos: 10-6 (2nd place in AFC West) playoffs
