2010 NFL Preview > Jacksonville Jaguars Preview2010 Jacksonville Jaguars Football Preview
Head Coach: Jack Del Rio 2009 Record: 7-9 (4th place in AFC South) Pro Bowlers: Maurice Jones-Drew (RB), David Garrard (QB) 2010 Jacksonville Jaguars Schedule
2009 Review:It doesn’t seem that long ago that the Jaguars were competing with the Colts for the AFC South division, my how things change in just a couple of seasons. Fact is Jacksonville over the last few seasons has been on the decline and it was really evident in 2008 when they finished a lowly 5-11, so in 2009 they did improve with 7 wins but not to where they want to be as a NFL franchise. The keys for the Jaguars are definitely Maurice Jones-Drew at running back, he seems to be the one steady factor in the offense he not only can run the ball put is also an excellent pass catcher out of the back field, and David Garrard at quarterback who has really come in to his own, granted he is not one to get all the accolades but he is steady at his position. Jacksonville really needed someone to emerge as a big play wide receiver and Mike Sims-Walker became that receiver, making plays every week for the offense. The defense is really where they must improve, with a limited offense the defense cannot allow to give up to many scores. Jacksonville to be a contender in the South must do more this offseason on both sides of the ball, if they don’t they could find themselves at the bottom of the division again.
2010 Preview:The Jags are looking to improve on the 7-9 record from last season, but when you don’t make many moves chances are you will stay the same. Once again they will ask David Garrard and Maurice Jones-Drew to carry the load and once again they will come up short. It’s not that these players are not able (fact is they are both superstars in my mind) it is just that you need others around them to help; you can’t rely on the same players every week. Mike Sims-Walker will be called upon to do more and we will see if he is up to the challenge. Really the Jags during the offseason focused on the defensive side of the ball signing a couple of veteran linebackers (Freddy Keiaho and Kirk Morrison) the big move was bringing in defensive end Aaron Kampman from the Packers, we will see how well this move works out. Jacksonville must get better offensively in a division where offense is key the Jags are limited and that will mean another year at the bottom looking up.
2010 Prediction:Jacksonville Jaguars: 7-9 (4th place in the AFC South)
