2011 NFL Preview > Detroit Lions Preview2011 Detroit Lions Football Preview
Head Coach: Jim Schwartz 2010 Record: 6-10 (3rd in NFC North) Did not qualify for playoffs 2011 Free Agents ,Re-signings or Draft Choices: QB- Drew Stanton; DT- Nick Fairley (draft); DB- Eric Wright; LB- Stephen Tulloch; CB- Chris Houston
2010 Review: It seems that for the Detroit Lions success has eluded them for quite a while. When Matt Stafford was drafted they were hoping that a turnaround was eminent and for the most part it is a work in progress. With the all-world receiver in Calvin Johnson the Lions were hoping to do serious damage in the NFC North, but what has plagued the Lions for years is the same that happened in 2010 the injury bug became the one thing they cannot escape. Good things are happening in Detroit and if they can stay healthy I believe they can make a run in 2011, with Best running the ball and Stafford throwing to Johnson the offense is primed and ready to make that run. Where the Lions must get better is on the defensive side of the ball, hopefully they can make the key signings in free agency or in the draft to have the true turnaround the franchise needs.
2011 Preview: The fact is the Lions, when healthy on offense can hang with anyone in the NFL but the key is to stay healthy. Matthew Stafford will have to prove this season that he was worthy of the #1 draft selection and in order for that to happen he must play all 16 games (and if any playoff action). The Lions really needed to get better on defense and with the draft selection of Nick Fairley out of Auburn they look to help free up the Pro Bowler Ndamukong Suh as the defensive line could be one of the best in the league if the plan pans out. Early on Fairley is already in question as an injury has already sidelined him for most of training camp, but they hope to get him on the field as quick as possible. The Lions have a tough road to travel but they do continue to make incredible progress and look for this season to be another successful step to the post season.
2011 Prediction: 8-8 (3rd place in NFC North)
